Yarrow herb contains many compounds valued as ingredients in cosmetic formulations, such as essential oil, which includes among others azulene, cineole, borneol, er- and β-pinene. Additionally, yarrow contains a cyanogenic glycoside called achillein, flavonoids - glycosides of apigenin and luteolin, choline, tannins, salicylic acid, furanocoumarin, vitamins A, C, and K, as well as mineral salts rich in manganese compounds and also cobalt, molybdenum, copper, iron, and sulfur.
Externally applied yarrow soothes irritations, has anti-inflammatory effects, accelerates healing and renewal of damaged epidermis. It has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, protecting damaged skin from secondary infection.
Products containing yarrow extract, thanks to the presence of achillein, effectively inhibit microbleeding, including from damaged capillaries, reduce their tendency to rupture, and stimulate healing processes.
The extract contains significant amounts of vitamin C, which gives it antioxidant functions and allows effective elimination of free radicals responsible for skin aging.
